Our Tesla danced with the whole planet

Our Tesla can dance! It spent Saturday evening performing to music in perfect time with a few thousand other Teslas across six continents — from a car park in Box Hill South.

It's the Worldwide Fantasy Tesla Light Show, a free global event run by XLightShows. Everyone loads the same eight-minute show, plays it after dark and films it; the clips are stitched into a 24-hour video that rolls from New Zealand to Hawaii. Last year's Christmas version drew 2,254 cars. The soundtrack runs through fantasy classics — the Lord of the Rings theme, then Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The NeverEnding Story.

The Tesla Owners Club (Vic) ran our meet, with a printed run sheet and all: the Worldwide Fantasy show, then a zombie show, then Thriller for good measure. You set it up in the Tesla app, tick "Dance Moves" so the mirrors and windows join in, step out and shut the doors — then headlights, indicators, tail lights and the boot all perform to the music.

About twenty of us lined up nose-out at the Box Hill South Supercharger — our ultra red TRIPNG — frunks and tailgates up, the whole row strobing together. Strangers stopped to film it. Fran's verdict: equal parts ridiculous and brilliant, which is about right.

Want to see what a worldwide synchronised light show actually looks like? Spot our ultra red TRIPNG at 0:51 and 1:43 in the YouTube link below.

It's all built into a car you then just drive home. Has anyone else taken part in one — and what theme should we run next time?

Charging

Drove the ~50 km down from Emerald and back on 83% battery, mostly from home solar — so no charge needed, despite parking right next to the Box Hill South Superchargers.

    1. Andrew Musgrave Probably better to spend one’s time enjoying this harmless fun rather than being a negative jerk.
